When her pet spider, Gretal, needed help to get around, Tiktokker Emily Hess523 came up with a clever solution.
In her heartwarming and educational video, Emily shares that as spiders age, they slow down and have more difficulty doing things, just like people.
For old spiders, they have a harder time climbing surfaces. For Gretal, that meant she couldn’t reach her favorite resting spot. So Emily decided to make Gretal’s “condo” (habitat) more handicap accessible.

The mesh that Emily puts down for Gretal does the trick and Gretal can now reach her cozy spot.
Gretal is a Regal jumping spider, a species native to Florida. This kind of spider rarely bites and they are very small – around the size of a thumbnail. Emily notes that Gretal likes hanging out with people but she had to first overcome her fear.
The tiny spiders live one to two years and it’s clear that Gretal is well loved and taken care of by Emily.
Here are some more facts that Emily shares about Gretal.
