An Alaskan woman’s birthday surprise for her husband was hilariously thwarted by a moose. Tara Grantland had baked her husband’s favorite cookies and put them outside only for a local moose to decide the cookies were hers now. Tara has known Helga the moose since she was born, but that didn’t mean she was about to do anything more than politely ask the 1,000-pound animal not to eat them.
In a video she shared on TikTok, Tara pleads with Helga, saying, “Oh no, don’t eat my cookies! It’s my husband’s birthday.” It’s a funny moment, and one she made sure to film as evidence for her husband to show she really had tried to surprise him with a treat—until Helga intervened.

The video has since gone viral, racking up over four million views. Viewers couldn’t help but laugh at Helga’s behavior. One person commented, “It’s Helga’s birthday now.” Others noted how daintily Helga nibbled on the cookies one at a time.
Tara later told CBC News that Helga knocked the pan off the ledge and ate every last cookie. She explained that many Alaskans use the outdoors as a fridge, as she did with her no-bake cookies. Tara is usually very cautious about leaving food outside, knowing it’s illegal to intentionally feed wild animals. However, she wasn’t expecting Helga to come snooping this time.
In her attempt to make her husband’s favorite treat, it seems Helga got treated instead.
